Department of Zoology   is established in the year 1968

The Departmentof Zoologywas established in 1968 with Sri.N.Koteswara rao and Dr.Ramachandra Rao as lecturers. Within short period both the Botany and Zoology departments were merged as the Biology department which was headed by Sri.E.Bhaskar Rao. The Department of Applied Nutrition was started during 1996-1997 and it was continued up to the academic year 2004.

Sri.K.Ram Mohan Rao, Smt K.Jenny and Sri.G.Srinivas Rao were joined thedepartment as junior lecturers and later promoted as lecturers. In the fifth academic year main system was introduced-Zoology as main subject, and Botany and Chemistry as ancillary subjects. This scheme continued upto 1987. In the same year the Biology department was bifurcated and the Zoology department was headed by Sri E.Bhaskar Rao.

In 1974 Sri.P.Krishnama Naidu joined the department as junior lecturer and later promoted as lecturer. He worked as Head of the department until his retirement period.

In 1984 Sri.E.Bhaskar Rao was elevated as Principal of the College. Consequently Sri N. Koteswara Rao was made Head of the department. Dr.R.Ramachandra Rao acted as Head of the department during the Academic year 1998-2000. He was awarded as the best teacher Awardee,a life time achievement by A.P state government for the year 2000. In the same year Sri.G.Prabhakar Rao joined as a lecturer and worked three years in the department.

Dr.K.Daniel joined the department as lecturer, appointed by commissioner, CCE, AP in 2002 and elevated as HoD in 2007. Mrs. K.Saroja was added as lecturer in the department in 2004 whose appointment was made by the college management. The latter staffs are committed to continue in the department and are struggling to keep its track of record with credits for spreading the vision and mission of department.

Courses offered:

The Department of Zoology was established with Chemistry and Botany as other options of the group, C.B.Z. with a sanctioned strength of 70 students..During the last 52 years the Department has made its identity in the broader areas of the life sciences and now it has developed into a full fledged centre for teaching and learning resources of modern Biology.

Participation of the department in the courses offered by other departments:

Foundation Courses-Science, Technology and Development in combination with Botany, Chemistry and   Physics   Departments; Environmental   Studies   in   combination   with   Botany, Chemistry and Economics.
